Julie Tattershall is the Artistic and Managing director of Heller Theatre (www.hellertheatre.com) and Clark Theatre (www.clarktheatre.com) for the City of Tulsa, Park and Recreation Department for the last 20 years. Heller and Clark Theatres strive in their mission to provide diverse educational and cultural experiences through both its productions and its programming.Both theatres have earned a reputation for producing quality material. The audience is too close for anything but the very best performances, and over the years Heller and Clark Theatre patrons have learned to expect fine work.

She co-founded the Tulsa Area Community Theatre Alliance (www.tacta.net) in 1998 to promote awareness of community theatre in the Tulsa Metro Area, to share resources, and to develop a cohesive marketing plan that benefits TACTA members. Since 2004 they have sponsored a forum (www.tactaforum.net) for local theatre artists to exchange ideas, promote audience awareness, post theatrical notices, and discuss issues of concern to local and statewide talent.

Julie, who has directed over 80 plays and has performed in over 300 improvisational shows, began a ‘New Plays’ series in 1990, a tradition that continues today. She began Tulsa’s first regular performing improvisational troupe, The Laughing Matter Improv, who still perform regularly. She has worked for the Tulsa Art and Humanities Council, was with the Artist in the Schools program from 1988-2004 and was a part of the Oklahoma Artist in Residence program for two years. Julie heads an education program at Clark and Heller Theatres that includes classes in improvisation, acting, acting methods, technical theatre, playwriting, and direction. She has implemented touring projects with the George Kaiser Family Foundation throughout the Tulsa area with “The Princess & the Pea” and has toured several shows for the Harwelden Institute, as well as teaching theatre programs in several alternative education schools.


HONORS
This year, Clark Theatre was awarded the Tulsa Area Theatre Excellence (TATE) award,sponsored by the George Kaiser Family Foundation, for the production of “The Sound of Music.” “Up The Down Staircase,” a first time collaboration with Theatre Tulsa, was awarded first place for Overall Outstanding Production.

Julie was the creator of Women Writes, a touring theatre project on social issues, which performed 23 times in four years and received a Governors Citation of Appreciation.

Julie placed two shows in the Tulsa World newspaper's ‘Top Ten Year-End Review’ and received the ELI award for best actress in American Theatre Companies production of “Diary of Anne Frank.” She performed in the national tour of “Where Red Fern Grows” and in October, 2006, she was named Communicator of the Year, the top honor of the annual Bronze Quill Awards sponsored by the Tulsa chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators for her quarter-century of dedication to creative communications and passing the gift of acting along to many.

The Oklahoma Community Theatre Association awarded her an All State Acting Award for “A Coupla White Chicks” in 2003, the Peoples Choice Award for “Riches” in 2003 and “Eleemosynary” in 2004, the Theatre of the Year Award in 2004, the Excellence in Directing Award for “Eleemosynary” in 2004 and “Hannah & Martin” in 2008, the Outstanding Production Award for "Eleemosynary” in 2004 and “Hannah & Martin” in 2008. “Eleemosynary” and “Hannah & Martin” were nominated to represent Oklahoma at the American Association of Community Theatre’s Region VI Festivals in Alexandria, La (2004) and Kerrville Tx (2008).
